Racing News: Ripperton Talks about “Quad-Stack”, Atlas Talks about TC

Another video about Ripperton, but this time a sit down interview and some nice detail on how the changes have affected the bike.

And then Brammo’s rider Steve Atlas give us another blog post talking about just how great his second test went, and even talks a bit about their new traction control system here.

Not much for me to say, as they pretty much say it all.

Enjoy!

  1. Cool. 2013 is shaping up to be the year of electric vs gas. Brammo, Ripperton, Hollywood Electrics (M1GP and leading the charge up Pikes Peak). Juiced at Road Atlanta (woot!). Maybe MotoElectra?

One thing I’m curious about with respect to radiator sizing. A gas bike that produces 100 kW = 133 hp at 20% efficiency is burning off 400 kW of heat power. An electric bike that produces 100 kW = 133 hp at 90% efficiency is burning off 10 kW of heat power. 40x difference in thermal dissipation power; wonder if similar size radiators are due to ICE being much more tolerant of heat than electric motors.

Wonder if we’ll see advances in electric motors that allow similar high-temp operation with minimal efficiency and power loss. Seems like it’s make air cooling viable even at absurd power levels.
