TTXGP Press Office
Daytona International Speedway is gearing up for a historical weekend as the TTXGP WORLD FINAL 2012 is almost upon us… With all three Reginal champions racing in this years finale this race should provide a thrilling weekend for electric race fans.
TTXGP will be hosting the TTXGP World Final 2012 as part of the AHRMA line-up during the Fall Cycle Scene and Biketoberfest on October 19th to 21st… the weekend spans three jam-packed days full of two wheel action and should provide sports fans a weekend to remember… The two main organizations will be taking part:- CCS and AHRMA will be hosting thier last raceweekend of this season as well as the TTXGP FINAL.
The 3.52 mile Daytona track will be used by all competitors across the weekend.
Azhar Hussain MBE, Founder of TTXGP commented “All three regional champions; crowned in North America, Europe and Australia have confirmed they are up for claiming the win in a winner takes all finale to the electric season in Daytona. Its going to an occation to remember and I am really excited to be bringing this race to America for the first time”
Reining TTXGP Euro Champion 2012 and 2011 Matthias Himmelmann from Muench Racing Team will be defending his World title. “We are very proud to be at the TTXGP World Final 2012 at the iconic Daytona International Speedway. It is my third year competing in the season finale and have been lucky enough to have won the previous two years for my team. It will be a challenge for us on a number of fronts, the distance from Germany, the expense and lack of training in advance on the circuit give Muench more barriers than most teams and to date I have not been lucky racing in the US. Having said that I have a great bike developed for me by Thomas Schuricht with fantastic support from Wittensteins motor company so I will do my best for my hard working team mates… We have been working hard over the last 4 months, not to develop this seasons race bike further but concentrate on the future of the team; along side my team mate Katja Peonsgen, FIM Road Racing star, we have been growing awareness in the European press and amongst potential sponsors for next seasons race efforts, obviously a win in Daytona no matter how challenging will help in this goal so we will put up a good fight for the title; I hope to see you on the podium.”
All analysis suggests it will be a close battle with many riders more than capable of stealing the crown. Australia’s Jason Morris will be competing in his first international race on his Catavolt designed machine complete with hub motor. “Since I was young I have dreamed of racing overseas and to now have my debut at the world famous Daytona Speedway is truly amazing. I am so excited to join the grid of the TTXGP and test ourselves against the world’s best electric machines and riders. Our TTX75 bike is built on a shoe string budget and it’s not going to be easy against the strength of the American and European teams. We have had to rely on the support of our sponsors to get us to Daytona to compete but one thing is for sure is that we will be giving it our very best shot and remind the other guys that Aussie guys are tough racers, just like the current MotoGP champion!”
Steve Atlas lifted the TTXGP North American trophy two consecutive years in a row and is hungry to add the World title to his growing collection. “Winning the championship this year for the second straight time has been awesome but it wasn’t easy. After breaking my back in round one in a scary crash and scoring no points we had to come from behind. But the Brammo guys did an awesome job and really came through for me with loads of upgrades for the Empulse RR and worked really hard to make it happen and that makes it all the more sweeter. Now we have one race left to win to really cap things off nicely!” Steve Atlas
It will certainly be a close battle and fans cannot rule out talented racers such as Eric Bostrom for Team Icon Brammo who has been wowing the crowds in both rounds he has raced in. TTXGP North America 2010 Champion, Michael Barnes on the Barracuda Lightning should also be expected to be racing hard on a track with the long straight sshould suit his straight out power. It certainly will be an exciting finish to our 4th season for TTXGP World Electric racing.
